MKMMA Week 7 – “Weeding the Mental Garden”

I just love Sara Wennerlind, a friend and fellow 2015 MKMMA member…she has a special place in my heart. We share many of the same passions and have both helped numerous people over the past few years improve their health and lose weight. I LOVED her blog last week about the Mental Diet….so I decided to share it with my readers as well. Besides being a very insightful person, you will see…..Sara is an amazing writer.

beautiful garden

The foundation has been laid, the soil has been tilled, the seeds have been planted, the flowers are beginning to bloom. Now the real work begins! I love seeking truth! This week we have the daunting task of going on a “mental diet,” as in not entertaining a single negative thought for more than 6 seconds.  It helps me to think of my mind as a garden. I dwell on positive thoughts, seeds that will manifest into beautiful flowers. I become aware of negative thoughts (weeds) and dismiss them as quickly as possible, plucking them from my mind before they are able to take root and choke out the flowers that are beginning to blossom.

It is frightening yet liberating all at the same time to entertain the thought that everything in my life today – the state of my body, the state of my fortune, the state of my…

Week 3: Time To Clean House

I really loved this post by Jewels and wanted to share it because I believe others will benefit from the clear, honest, enlightening way he expresses herself. This was her Week 3 post. To me….she’s developing the powerful skill of becoming the non-judgmental observer!

Jewels Masterkey Journey

Time to cleanhouse!     The MKMMA daily readings and assignments have yielded me one common denominator: “Subby” is in need of an overhaul – it is time to clean house!

I noticed that some days I am more excited and positive in my readings and others I am a bit lackluster; even cynical. Some days are drenched in belief and others are overcast with clouds of doubt. I am grateful for both the good and the bad days because each are necessary. Truth be told, I am suspect of anyone who dives into a new way of thinking/behaving and claims to only experience clear sailing.  Waves are part of learning; we all have to ride them out. Undoubtedly, our best learning comes from overcoming troubled waters.

Fortunately, the process of doing the daily assignments has kick-started the necessary cleaning. As I read, I am RECOGNIZING the thoughts and emotions that derail my…

Week 19-20 I Don’t Know, What I Don’t Know!

In my struggle to convey how this all feels… Mila’s comments this week. Feel the transformation that those of us still here are experiencing!

The Healing Truth

Wow, my Subby is always working for me.  It is amazing to see everyday the results of the MKMMA showing up when you are not aware of the behind the scenes direction Subby gets!

Subby never misses a thing!!  So, I was helping with our fund raiser for my Capoeira class and we were having a poker tournament & silent auction.  At sometime during the preparations, I was thinking it would be fun to put “Das Boot” (the glass boot) into the auction.  Well I know my husband would not give up his, which he got in Germany, so I forgot about it, but it was a desire. A very quick one at that.

As I was getting ready for the auction and poker tournament, I stopped at a Goodwill to see what kind of decorations we could pick up, and you guessed it.  There on a shelf, completely where…

Week 12 – About Og Mandino

The very first audio book I ever listened to after I began my network marketing business was “The Science of Personal Achievement” by Napoleon Hill.  I loved the book and it was especially endearing to me because it was narrated by the author. There was just something about hearing Mr Hill’s own voice tell his story that really drew me in – the conviction, the inflections in his voice and his “old school” style of reading.

What began in this course as a requirement to read certain important literary works – exactly as prescribed – every single day (as part of a carefully planned-out progression for mental development) has now turned into a pleasure and almost an obsession for me.  We are given access to one chapter at a time from Charles Haanel’s Master Key System, which we are to read daily for a full week.   In addition, we have developed the habit of reading each Scroll in Og Mandino’s book “The Greatest Salesman in the World” 3 times/day for an entire month before moving on to the next Scroll.  Each Scroll contains a principle which is hugely impactful when we apply it in our daily lives (as Haanel writes, “knowledge does not apply itself; we as individuals must make the application”).  To supplement, we have been provided other highly relevant essays from Napoleon Hill, Ralph Waldo Emmerson & Emmet Fox to help us make connections between these writings and the daily exercises we execute toward our goal of mastering our thoughts and tapping into the unlimited power we hold within.

Before this course, I had never read anything by Charles Haanel or Og Mandino.  I felt compelled to look up Haanel and read his biography, which I found fascinating (I  highly recommend you do the same).  Then yesterday I had a conversation with my friend, Jeff (who’s also a business partner going through the Go90Grow course with me), about Og Mandino and how we’re using The Greatest Salesman book in MKMMA.  He said he’d read it before, as well as several of Og’s other books, including “The Greatest Secret in the World” (his favorite).  After sharing some great thoughts and insight, Jeff texted me the message: “Have you heard Og Mandino’s story?”.  When I said I hadn’t, he replied, “spend 12 minutes and listen to it here”:

I wanted to share it with my fellow MKMMA buddies – just in case you haven’t had the pleasure.  If you scroll down the page and click on the audio you can hear this beloved man tell his own story –  his own voice.  And below that are 3 great stories about Og told by his wife, Bette – including one entitled “The Night the Ten Scrolls Were Written”.     Enjoy!

week 11 – Press On!

imagesA huge payoff happened this week in our MKMMA course – a moment of extraordinary enlightenment and sudden understanding.  We learned that over the past 10 weeks – as we’ve been digging deep to identify and clearly define our definite major purpose in life, as well as faithfully executed a progression of  tasks, mental exercises, studies, readings, writings, visualizations – we’ve quite literally been “set up” for success!  Napoleon Hill’s renowned lifelong work, (summarized in the book “Think and Grow Rich”), in which he interviewed 504 of the world’s most successful people to determine what key qualities or characteristics they possessed in common – revealed 13 key principles.  And all of these principles were designed to develop the HABIT of PERSISTENCE.  Contrary to popular belief, persistence is a habit -not a characteristic which some people possess and others do not.

So what’s the payoff?  Working in collaboration, Hill and W Clement Stone discovered that there are 4 necessary steps in all walks of life to assure the development of persistence –  4 steps by which one can control their own economic destiny….steps which lead to freedom and independence of thought.  These 4 steps are essentially the “mini-habits” that WE have been developing over the past 10 weeks of this course, namely:

1. A definite purpose, backed by a burning for it’s fulfillment (our DMPs and PPN’s)

2. A definite plan, expressed in continuous action (our POA, focusing on World Within and traction points to move our business or other smart goals forward)

3. A mind closed tightly against negative or discouraging influences, including negative suggestions of relatives, friends and acquaintances (the Mental Diet)

4. Friendly (Mastermind) alliance with one or more persons who will encourage one to follow through with both plan and purpose (MMA with ourself – Gal in the Glass – as well as with at least one other partner and the MKMMA members as a group in the members area.

One key thing that also hit me on last Sunday’s webcast was the undeniable fact that persistence is NOT equivalent to “not quitting”.  People have been tricked into believing that just “hanging in there” will bring them success.  But nothing could be further from the truth – not quitting is not the same as winning!  If we have taken the 4 steps above, remain vigilant to the exercises and understand that everything we have done so far and continue to do in this course will assure that we “form this habit (persistence) and become it’s slave” – WE WIN.

I love this quote by Calvin Coolidge – the last line is completed in blue:

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.  The slogan “Press On” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”

2013-12-02 14.42.12My amazing father, George Hammond, passed away one year ago this month. He was an American hero and he was my hero.  He was loved and admired by everyone who ever knew him, worked with him, served with him, loved him.  He was one of the most enlightened people I have ever  known and I have always strived to be more like him – not just because he was my dad, but because he was one of the most amazing human beings on earth.  He left a huge impact on so many.  Over the past 2 months as I’ve read Haanel and Og, worked the exercises, practiced the mental diet and immersed myself in this course, I have identified all the virtues I so loved in George Hammond.  If I didn’t know that MKMMA was Mark & Davene’s fairly recent brainchild, I’d think my dad had taken this course 60 years ago.  But I really do believe he must have read Haanel in his life, and the Greatest Salesman and Emerson….for he lived by the principles therein. I feel my dad has been closely watching me this past year, guiding me forward on this journey.  And one of the things he always used to say to me was, “Press On, Honey”.

Week 10 – New PPN!

For the past few weeks I’ve been feeling compelled to choose a different PPN and do a major rewrite on my DMP.  Mark said this is not unusual at this particular point in the course and I had been putting a lot of thought into it.  So I took the time this week to really deep and recreate my DMP – with True Health as a PPN instead of Legacy.  The undertaking seemed a little daunting at first since I was faced not only with having to write the full version, but also the movie trailer & press release, shape sheets, plus re-record my new DMP to music and make some changes/additions to my movie poster.  I also re-wrote several of my index cards this week.  I’m still not completely finished with everything, but I will have it all revised by Sunday’s webcast.  Truly, this has been an incredibly rewarding week and it couldn’t have come at a better time.   I feel more emotional attachment to my DMP than ever before and find it easy to read aloud with “unbridled enthusiasm”, especially when I’m out walking.  The Week 9 webcast and the Week 10 video really brought everything together and I’m going on much more than just faith now.  As Mark said, this is SO much more than just working to maintain a scholarship.  It’s application of the knowledge that’s the key to everything.  The Master Key lesson this week blew my mind….as did Og’s Scroll 3 about persistence.  And I also found an incredible partner to form a Mastermind Alliance with and I purchased a turn-key blog.  So this week “off”  has actually been a REALLY productive and fulfilling one.  So I’m ready to take this to a whole new level.  Rock on!!
